Episode Summary

When many small business owners decided to pause operations, close their doors, or delay launches due to Covid, brother-sister duo William Jones and Erika Chambers unintentionally entered the world of entrepreneurialism at just the right time.

They founded a puzzle business in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, with a very specific mission: to create interactive art that featured black people in a space where they were not represented. Little did they know that puzzling would become an international pastime during the lockdown, and their passion project would inspire people across the world.

William and Erika did puzzles with their family throughout their childhood and enjoyed the challenge they presented, not to mention the long hours they spent together. But in doing so, they noticed two distinct problems:

  1. the imagery often did not represent who they were and

  2. when they liked a puzzle, they couldn’t find a frame that would fit it.

Puzzles of Color strives to promote tech-free entertainment for people of all ages. Their puzzles feature the work of artists of color, and they hope to create experiences and memories to last a lifetime.

Featured on CBS This morning, Byrdie Beauty, The Drew Barrymore Show, and recognized by the likes of Color Vision, there’s no stopping William and Erika on their journey now.
